Lecture Notes
The module is based on lecture notes available in both PDF and HTML formats. While both versions contain identical core content, the HTML version includes solutions to the exercises in the lecture notes, additional multiple-choice questions, and some animations. Schedule
On Wednesday evenings, at 18:30 there is an exercise session on Zoom
https://fernuni.zoom.us/my/keegan.flood
which is run by the course assistant. During the exercise session you can ask questions, help will be given for the current exercise sheet and the solutions of the previous exercise sheet will be discussed. The exercise session will be recorded and made available on switchTUBE, should you not be able to attend. The exercise sheet will then be handed in the following Monday no later than 10am, by upload on moodle.
Five times per semester, there is an interactive lecture on Zoom given by Thomas Mettler.

Grading & Exam
The exam takes place 15 June 2024 online on Zoom.
Condition for the admission to the examination is that 75% of all exercise sheets (that is, 9 out of 12) are meaningfully worked on. This can be achieved by solving exercises correctly, but also by demonstrating a recognisable effort in trying to solve the exercises. Generally speaking, don't worry about the admission to the exam. We will certainly be generous when assessing whether an exercise sheet has been meaningfully worked on.
Each exercise is graded with 0 to 3 points. The nine exercise sheets with the highest points will amount for 20% of your final grade. The remaining 80% are determined through an oral exam.
During the oral exam you are expected to demonstrate intimate knowledge of all the material presented in the lecture notes, videos and exercise sheets. For instance, you may be asked to state a definition or theorem, give the details of a proof or carry out a calculation, typically all of the above. The oral examination will last a minimum of twenty minutes, but may continue until an accurate grade can be assigned. The overall duration of the oral examination will not exceed thirty minutes. Please make sure to have a computer or tablet ready where you can write something down and share your screen.
